Although some folding models do have this as an option, generally scooters do NOT come with lithium ion batteries.
The Pro's of lithium ion batteries:
- They put out more power per pound than a Sealed Lead Acid battery.
- They can be discharged and charged up more times than a Sealed Lead Acid battery.
The cons of lithium ion batteries:
- They are much more expensive than Sealed Lead Acid Batteries. Extra battery packs are often prohibitively expensive.
- Due to fire risk, some airlines have restrictions on bringing them aboard or shipping them via air.
Folding scooters most often are likely to include lithium ion batteries or offer them as an option. Manufacturers are working hard to move away from lithium ion battery packs in favor of Sealed Lead Acid battery packs.
