What do the lights on my scooter battery charger mean?

Scooter battery chargers come in various styles; some with a single LED light and some with two LED lights. Scooter manufacturers do not manufacture the battery chargers so it's even possible that two of the same brand and model of a scooter can come with different battery chargers. In this article we're going to explain what the lights mean.

In general, the lights on the charger are meant to show the following:

1. That when plugged into a working wall socket, that the battery charger is powered up and working properly. 
2. That the battery pack is not defective in some way
3. That the batteries are not so dead that they cannot be recharged. 
4. If your battery charger has two lights on it, one of the lights will illuminate when the charger is plugged into a working wall receptacle. 

If the charging indicator on the battery charger is showing solid or flashing red, this means it is properly charging the battery and the battery is accepting the charge. The older the battery, the longer it may take to recharge but batteries will generally recharge near fully.

If the charging indicator is green, this means the battery is fully charged. In this case, the battery charger must be disconnected from the battery so as not to cause overcharging.

If the charging indicator is flashing alternate red/green, this indicates there is an electrical problem with the battery pack. In order of likelihood, the problems can be: 1) the circuit breaker on the front of the battery pack needs to be reset or 2)the internal fuse inside the battery pack needs to be replaced or 3) there is a wiring defect or problem inside the battery pack. 

If it's the internal fuse, that fuse can be unplugged and a replacement purchased at any auto parts store, Walmart, etc. 

If the charging indicator does not illuminate at all when connected to the battery pack, this indicates that the batteries are too low in voltage to recharge. This can happen if the batteries have not been regularly recharged or have been damaged in some way. In this case, the batteries need to be replaced.
