This left-most light is a diagnostic indicator. When blinking, the blink pattern ("flash code") can be interpreted to determine the particular malfunction.
When this light is not illuminated at all, the most common reason is that the scooter battery charger is plugged into the scooter or the scooter battery while the battery is on the scooter. For safety reasons, the scooter is designed not to be operable if the battery charger is plugged into the scooter.
For Drive Medical Scout scooters, if the first light remains out and the scooter won't move, follow these two instructions:
1. Remove and check the connections between the battery pack and the scooter.
2. Remove the four screws fastening the footboard in place and lift the footboard off, exposing the controller. Inspect and if necessary push down on each of the wire connectors going to the controller.
If the first light is still not illuminated and the scooter still won't operate, it's likely to be a defective controller.
