This article pertains to Pride Pursuit scooters delivered after April 15, 2024
Introduction
The Pride Pursuit 2 scooter comes in a one battery and two battery configuration. The batteries do not come wired so this article explains how to get each of these configurations ready to ride. Additionally, the lithium ion batteries that come with the Pursuit 2 are delivered in a "sleep mode" and must be woken up before first time use.
XLR Cables
In addition to the usual power cables with red/black ring connectors that connect the battery(s) to the scooter, the Pursuit comes with two additional cables:
- A cable with a 4 pin XLR connector at one end and a 5 pin XLR connector at the other end. This cable is required only when the Pursuit is configured with two batteries. If your Pursuit has only one battery, put this cable in a safe place in the event a second battery is added later.
- A cable with an XLR connector on one end and a plastic connector with a loop jumper at the other end. This cable is required to wake the batteries up. It looks like this:
(Note that some Pursuits also include a third cable with an XLR connector on one and and bare wires at the other end. This cable is not needed at all and may be discarded)
Pursuit 2's with single battery configuration
WITH THE KEY REMOVED FROM THE SCOOTER, follow these instructions:
- If one was included with your scooter, set aside the XLR cable with the 4/5 pin connectors for future use. It will not be needed right now.
- Locate the battery lead cable with red/black ring connectors at one end and a plug-in connector at the other end. Using the supplied bolts, fasten the red connector to the + connector of the battery and the black connector of that same lead cable to the - connector on the same battery. Do not plug the battery cable into the scooter yet.
- Plug the cable with the XLR connector and loop cable into the matching XLR socket on the battery. This cable is to remain connected to the battery at all times and the other XLR connector on the battery will remain empty.
- WITH THE KEY REMOVED FROM THE SCOOTER, plug the other end of the battery connector into either socket on the scooter.
- WITH THE KEY STILL REMOVED FROM THE SCOOTER, plug the battery charger into the scooter. DO NOT PLUG THE CHARGER INTO THE WALL.
- After 20 seconds, plug the charger into the wall. The power light on the battery charger should illuminate and the charge indicator on the charger should glow red.
- Once the battery is fully charged, the charge indicator on the charger will glow green.
- Disconnect the charger from the scooter and the wall and you may insert the key to power up the scooter.
- Your scooter is now ready to use.
Pursuit 2's with the two battery configuration
WITH THE KEY REMOVED FROM THE SCOOTER, follow these instructions:
- Locate the XLR cable that has 4 pins at one end and 5 at the other end. Plug the four pin end into one of the sockets on one of the batteries that's labeled with a 4. It does not matter which you choose.
- Plug the five pin end of the cable into the socket labeled 5 on the other battery. One connector on each battery will remain empty.
- Locate the two battery lead cables with red/black ring connectors at one end and plug-in connectors at the other end. Using the supplied bolts, fasten the red connector to the + connector of the battery and the black connector of that same lead cable to the - connector on the same battery. Do not plug the battery cable into the scooter yet.
- Repeat with the other battery lead cable and battery.
- Plug the cable with the XLR connector and loop cable into the matching XLR socket on whichever has the available matching connector. This cable is to remain connected to the battery at all times. The remaining XLR socket on the other battery will remain empty.
- WITH THE KEY REMOVED FROM THE SCOOTER, plug the other end of each battery into the scooter.
- Once the batteries are fully charged, the charge indicator on the charger will glow green.
- Disconnect the charger from the scooter and the wall and you may insert the key to power up the scooter.
- Your scooter is now ready for use.
