A six flash code on a Drive Medical Scout scooter indicates a throttle calibration issue. The most common reason for this is because the rider was squeezing/holding the throttle while turning the key on or because the spring that re-centers the throttle isn't working properly.
Make sure the rider understands that they should not be squeezing the throttle paddle while turning the key on the scooter on.
Next, verify that when squeezing and then letting go of the throttle paddle, that it springs back to center by itself. If it does not spring back, the throttle paddle mechanism will need to be replaced.
If the throttle does spring back to center when released, the then the throttle will need to be recalibrated.
Resetting the throttle calibration
- Remove the key from the scooter
- Remove the battery pack from the scooter
- Reinsert the key and turn back to the 'on' position.
- Wait ten seconds
- Remove the key from the scooter
- Replace the battery pack on the scooter
- Reinsert the key and turn to the 'on' position
The scooter should now be working properly.
